Matt, I’m interested to know why you would want to keep DWG Editor going? It’s ok to get you out of a bind, but I’ve found it buggy and the interface is pretty outdated. On first inspection DraftSight seems to solve all these problems. Why saddle paid SW users with DWG Editor (Sorry, “2D Editor”)?

Just based on what Rob has said here, I’d much rather us paid up SW customers got the ‘Enterprise version’ of DraftSight, than 2D Editor. Though obviously SW can’t comment on strategy going forward…

My bad Matt. I thought at some point DraftSight was going to replace the 2D Editor. I think for anyone who uses both, DraftSight will become the preffered software. It’s just so much nicer to use than the 2D Editor. I’ll update the post.

Hey Rob,

Thanks for the great piece. One thing I want to clarify is that DraftSight is not a replacement for SolidWorks 2D Editor. DraftSight is available to anyone and everyone for free, while SolidWorks 2D Editor will continue to be provided to SolidWorks subscription customers. There are currently no end-of-life plans for 2D Editor.

Wow… That looks great Rob. Thanks for sharing. So many cool tools for rendering available these days. Really looking forward to the release of the SolidWorks Kit for Modo.

Rob, you have proven once again to be the Dali Lama of rendering. It is quite interesting to see that this type of rendering can be done effectively with products that are so easy to use and don’t break the bank. I will have to learn some more about this!

All of us trained mechanical guys seem to have those same problems when asked to be precise in a program such as modo.

Great work Rob! I just invested in Modo 401 myself and find it very exciting to work with. I am not any good at it yet either but I am going throught the “signiture courseware” which is very good. You make the splash kit look very tempting to buy as well!
